Interactional Metadiscourse in Applied Linguistics Research Article Abstracts of Moroccan L2 Writers of English: A Small Corpus Investigation

Arguably, the Moroccan academic writing stratosphere has long been understudied. Such oversight is particularly discerning given how beneficial these studies can be for L2 writers of English. To this end, using Hyland’s (2005) metadiscourse framework, current research interactional practices in a small corpus 15 applied linguistics article abstracts. These were collected from two Moroccan-based peer-reviewed journals. A “thick” approach both frequency and textual analysis was adopted. an led to having contextually grounded results better matching nature. We report that abstracts exhibited limited degree reader interaction, shown by low percentage markers their functional orientation. This attributed nature discourse community, disciplinary changes, rhetorical transfer. recommend more effort taken towards creating courses students Morocco elsewhere. call scholars field kindly consider as source input type research.
